James M. `Jim` Campion , Age: 74
October 02, 1943 -- November 26, 2017

James M. Campion, 74, Kansas City, KS, died on Sunday November 26th, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A rosary will be prayed in his honor at the Cathedral of Saint Peter. 416 N. 14th St. Kansas City, KS at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday November 30th with the visitation to follow until 7 p.m.. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday December 1st at the Cathedral with a luncheon to follow immediately in the Parish center. The inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Cathedral of Saint Peter. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Dorothy Campion. He is survived by his wife, Sally of 51 years and his 5 children Christine Saysoff (Pat), Beth Dean (Joel), Amy Maloy (Kyle), Molly Patterson (Wayne) and Matthew Campion (Allison). His nine grandchildren: Hannah, Molly, and Rex Saysoff; John Dean; Abby Maloy; Gage and Garrett Patterson; Blake and Ellie Campion and his sister Gerry Vukas. Jim and Sally owned a liquor store at 22nd and Quindaro in the early years of their marriage. He worked for Fleming Foods for 27 years and was a very proud member of the Teamsters Union. Jim was a devout Catholic and an active member of his parish and his community. He was president of the Holy Name Society, and a huge advocate of the REACH Program. Because of Jim’s strong commitment to the Catholic faith it was very important for him to give his 5 children a Catholic education. Despite working tireless hours, Jim always made time to coach his children and/ or be their number one fan. He was a “Grill Master”, winning many competitions, and was sought out by many for his grilling expertise…but he would NEVER divulge his secret rub recipes! Being a grandfather was one of the things that Jim cherished most. If by chance you remember Jim, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.

Babe, Dad, Grandpa, Pa Pa, Pop Pop…..We miss you so much!

Sally we are all greatly saddened by Jim's passing. I will always remember him for his honest humor, gracious hospitality, and faithful friendship. He would want me to add that he also had a sweet jump shot. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work that helped you and him create a great marriage and family. I will always cherish the memories of the "gang" reuniting at your home for tacos, beer, and laughter when we would return home to KCK. Love, Dick Keil

I fondly remember going with my folks to the "first generation" store on 7th Street. Jim’s Dad was always so kind to us little kids. Jim was cut from the same cloth. When Jim and Sally married, we all knew that two of the best people we knew had formed a lifelong partnership. You will be in our prayers, Sally. All the best.

Jim and l were best friends in high school and he and Sally have remained life long friends to Judy and me. Sally, you know you are in our hearts forever and Judy & I know your large, close family will continue to look after each other. As Dick Keil said, Jim could shoot a basketball and when you passed it to him you knew you would not see it again. He was more famous for the "hair fake" he gave you before he shot. If you knew Jim in HS, you know he was an excellent West Coaster and the only person I knew who mastered the Mashed Potatoes. We loved you brother and we love your great family.
