Velma L. Gardner, 87, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM with Funeral Mass starting at 10:30 AM Friday, January 12, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd Kansas City, KS 66104. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104.

Velma was born August 28, 1930, in Kansas City, KS. She loved working at Savoy Grill. She was a renaissance woman-fixing everything and learning to play the guitar in her 50s, skiing in her 60s and started water color painting in her 70s. She was a very active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her son Jay Gardner, sisters Dorothy Edie and Sister Therese Klepac. Velma is survived by her husband of 68 years James V. Gardner, 4 children Chris (Diane) Gardner, Greg Gardner, Gina (Doug) Kruse, Julie (Kirk) Nelson, daughter-in-law Liz Gardner, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
